New initiative coming up…
This Initiative is based on a partnership that lasted over two years now. It is small, it is a starting point. It is strongly linked to what I believe in. It is very much related to the many conversations we had here. It involves generosity, not a surprise it comes just after the “generosity day.”
Some posts ago Michael pointed out that external localized, small scale intervention in developing countries can have positive impact for the people it touches. And I agreed.
It is the aid industry as a system that should be closed down. Especially when it is used mainly in the interest of donors, often states, as part of their 3D foreign policy (remember Defence, Diplomacy and Development?).
How could we use the generous contribution of millions of people to do good and in effective ways? Well, firstly it is hard to account for the complexities of measuring the effectiveness of dollars invested in the social sector. Secondly, we have to understand what we are looking for.
Development is a marathon, not a sprint!
This will requires us to be far sighted, maybe very far sighted. Maybe so far sighted that almost no one really dares to be.
This requires to be patient, maybe so patient that few really are.
Maybe capitalism should be more patient. I believe so.
Maybe we should nurture, over time, leaders from developing countries, and they will bring about the change needed in their home countries. I believe so.
What do you think? More to come soon. Stay tuned!
